Kentucky Power employees partner with the Red Cross and community volunteer fire departments to help provide smoke detectors to those in need.
Read to Me Day is an annual event in which our employees volunteer to read to students at schools throughout the company's eastern Kentucky communities. The company began its Read to Me Day program in Kentucky in 2003. Since that first day, Kentucky Power has donated thousands of books to schools and read aloud to thousands of students.
When disaster strikes, Kentucky Power employees respond by volunteering their time and talents with community organizations such as Christian Appalachian Project and Housing Development Alliance to help clean up storm damage and repair homes in areas of need.
Liberty partners with WYMT and local businesses to Power Up the Pantry which is an annual day-long food drive to replenish depleted area food pantries. The inaugural event in 2019 collected 7.5 tons of food and more than $17,000. Donations benefit God’s Pantry Food Bank and eastern Kentucky community agencies served by Facing Hunger Food Bank. Employees work during the day to staff the various sites around the Liberty territory.
During October, our field employees wear pink hard hats to promote Breast Cancer awareness.
Liberty's culture is rooted in community involvement. Whether it is supporting the arts, education and area non-profit organizations or investing in economic development projects, Liberty employees believe it is important to invest time and money toward making a difference in our communities. Employees spend numerous hours volunteering their time and talents to our schools, non-profit boards, and other organizations. They volunteer at fairs and festivals and are firmly committed to making a difference.
In celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day, Liberty gives away thousands of low-growth tree saplings to customers every year usually on a spring Saturday morning. Volunteer employees order, sort and plan the distribution of trees for this event.
Kentucky Power employees believe it is important to invest time in our communities. That is why they spend numerous hours volunteering their time and talents to schools, fairs, and festivals.
Kentucky Power supports lineworker programs by donating bucket trucks to local colleges. Employees have also installed new utility poles to enhance training in the lineworker education classes.
Toward the end of summer, Kentucky Power employees volunteer with local backpack programs to help ensure all students go back to school with what they need to start the year off successfully.
